Elena Kagan's paper,"To the final Conflict: Socialism in New York City  1900-1933 a 135 page document, written at Princeton University clearly shows her belief in, and support for a system that has resulted in the death of millions and the enslavement of hundreds of millions.  In her writings, she laments the fall in popularity of socialism as a tool for change in America.

Realizing that this was written almost 30 years ago, you might wonder if it is still important or even supports her present beliefs. By itself, it would be hard to tell, but taken with other comments, and behaviors, it seems to be consistent with what we can find out about her. In addition, it seems to follow a pattern of this Presidential administration to place people with socialist beliefs in key positions.

In her conclusion, she describes the fall of socialism's popularity in New York with the following words: "The story is a sad but also a chastening one for those who, more than half a century after socialism's decline, still wish to change America. Radicals have often succumbed to the devastating bane of sectarianism: it is easier, after all, to fight one's foe. Yet if the history of Local New York shows anything, it is that American radicals cannot afford to become their own worst enemies. In unity lies their only hope."

For the reader that may not understand the definition of Socialism, I offer the following: It is a political term used to describe an economic system where property is held in common and not individually. The general belief is, that decisions should not be made collectively because the populace lacks knowledge, but should instead, be made by individuals in positions of authority on behalf of the collective group. In short, the Government knows best what you need and will supply those needs by taking charge of the economy.

After watching our government attempt to take over the auto industry, the banking industry, the financial industry, the health care industry and (through environmental laws) virtually every form of manufacturing. I am not surprised that he would choose Ms. Kagan
